“Body centered therapy” is a loosely defined term used in many psychological and manual muscle therapies. At BodyLogic, we define it as a method of therapy that approaches treatment first through your physical body, but also aims at addressing pain and trauma at other levels than the purely physical. We treat physical pain directly through a variety of self-correcting techniques and manual muscle therapies, while also addressing how your cognitive, emotional and spiritual bodies play into this pain. By attending to the needs and responses in all four bodies, clients are often able to release other “traumas” that may underlie physical pain. By realigning all of your bodies, you will create a healthy and functional place to live. Our treatments always begin with the physical body and we will continually come back to reference how your body feels and reacts to changes occurring within all layers and levels of your cognitive, emotional and spiritual experience.
Good question! First of all, we very much support the spas in Northern California. Many provide a wonderful environment to pamper yourself and escape for the day. We encourage pampering! However, once your day is over, you often do not have the tools to continue relaxation or integrate the work that was done. The treatments can be very expensive and they are generally not personalized to the client’s individual needs. BodyLogic is a healing clinic, in which we take the time to get to know you, your body, and the way your physical body connects with the rest of you: your cognitive, emotional and spiritual bodies. Because of this highly individualized approach, we can offer you new, effective and safe ways to heal pain and trauma as well as reduce stress, feel more energy and create vitality in your life. Our bodywork is a recipe made up of a variety of techniques, chosen to meet your specific tastes and needs. We offer insight into how your four bodies process your experience of the world, and we give you practical tools to take with you to improve your well being and health.
We begin with a free initial consultation (on the phone or in the office). This is a “get acquainted” session for you to ask questions and get familiar and comfortable with us before you commit to ongoing sessions. If after this consultation we feel like the work is a good fit for you, we schedule a 1½ hour Baseline Assessment to speak more in depth about your situation and body. During the assessment we will also do “hands-on” work, including bodywork, training, range of motion or stretching, depending on what you would like to address. After the assessment, we will craft an individualized program and schedule your ongoing bodywork, massage, healing or training sessions as needed. Please visit our Services page to learn more about the consultations and assessment work.
Because our treatments are personalized, we like to have the chance to educate you on the work we do, and let you ask any questions you may have. Also, the work and environment may not be suitable for your needs. We like to have the opportunity to get to know your specific situation before we can recommend a treatment plan or be comfortable that the work we recommend will be both effective for you and within our scope of practice. For convenience, you may schedule both the ½ hour consultation and the baseline assessment at the time of your initial call.
Typically, bodywork sessions last about an hour. We suggest you wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing is to allow a full range of motion. Occasionally, in order to access skin or use some bodywork techniques, we will recommend that clothing be removed and you will be fully covered by a sheet. This will always be at your discretion. The practitioner works with you to identify areas of discomfort, tension and pain, as well as areas of comfort and ease of movement. We incorporate the use of gentle movements, comfortable positioning and compression in order for your body to feel safe and release the muscles and surrounding energy. No forceful movements are used. Every session is specifically designed around your individual needs. Verbal feedback will guide the practitioner to find the movements and positions that facilitate your body’s release of stress and tension. Home self care is often suggested to further aid in relieving pain, restoring balance and function throughout the body.
The length of time for individual treatments ranges from 30 to 90 minutes. Your first consultation is free. The Baseline Assessment costs $120 and the individual sessions range from $80 to $120 per hour. However, the full cost and length of your treatment plan depends on many factors such as personal goals, severity of injury or pain and your commitment to healing. You should feel results within the first few sessions but every body heals at a different rate, depending upon many life circumstances. Once we release the first layer of muscle or trauma, we may find deeper levels you want to release. We cannot say how long your treatments will last but it is ALWAYS up to you what treatments you decide to have and how long you decide to continue.
You can call to schedule an appointment during “normal business hours,” currently defined at Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Currently, we are open for appointments Tuesday through Saturday. Days and appointment times are flexible so please call and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Yes, and no. Our clinic is committed to helping you heal pains on many levels – physical, emotional and spiritual. We do offer full body massages, but we are not a day spa. Most of our full body massage appointments are available to clients who have completed the baseline assessment and have determined that this type of work best meets their needs. So, don’t let scheduling the assessment scare you off! Most likely, you will find it helpful in determining your healing goals, being able to have a reference point for how the work feels in your body and learning about the possible other ways classes and sessions at BodyLogic may help your healing process.
We do not accept insurance or directly bill third parties for the service. Full payment is expected at the time of your appointment. As California law changes and the health care system evolves into something that remotely resembles taking care of your health, we will hopefully be able to include our work in insurance payment plans. You may be able to pay for services with your Health Savings Account (HSA) but you must determine this with your health care provider. We will provide you with all necessary documentation and receipts for your HSA.
This can be a tough answer to hear, but it is not OUR job to heal you. You need to heal yourself and BodyLogic offers our treatments and classes with self-correcting therapies at the forefront. If you are too busy to commit to your own healing process, most likely you will not see the long term results you seek. If this is your preferred mode of treatment, we will gladly refer you to a wonderful therapist or spa that treats clients on a one-time basis.
